Kateslem After School Programin EDUCATION
Kateslem is a First Nation word, meaning “coming together”. The Kateslem After School Program in Coquitlam, provides vulnerable youth with a positive, consistent, supportive and safe after school environment.
Kateslem is a “not for profit” organization that offers after school activities to school aged youth, in six different elementary and middle school in SD43, who would otherwise be unoccupied. Students registered with Kateslem are provided a safe and caring atmosphere, offering academic, emotional and social support.
The Kateslem team aims to empower youth through experiences and skill development in an environment where their individual abilities and needs are valued and respected. The low youth to staff ratio facilitates trust and understanding between youth and program staff.
Wesbild was pleased to provide funding to Kateslem to help provide nutritious after school snacks and for recreational activities such as swimming and skating.
