Predator Ridge is proud to announce a recent achievement of becoming a Biosphere Certified destination, a testament to their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This prestigious certification highlights Predator Ridge’s dedication to meeting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. By prioritizing eco-friendly practices, and fostering a community focused on environmental responsibility, read on to discover what this means for our community and how it aligns with a sustainable, more responsible future.
The actions of the Biosphere Sustainable Plan can be divided into three main areas of sustainable development: Environment and Climate Change, Economy and Governance, and Society and Culture.
Environment and Climate Change
Action in the area of environment and climate change is one of the fundamental pillars for ensuring sustainable tourism. Predator Ridge continues to implement several actions in accordance with the sustainable goals outlined by the United Nations.
1. Affordable and Clean Energy
- Predator Ridge has prioritized infrastructures and facilities that use less energy.
- All new buildings and renovations are constructed with energy efficiency in mind, utilizing materials and technologies that reduce environmental impact.
2. Responsible Consumption and Production
- Removal of single-use plastic from commercial Resort operations. Takeout containers and cutlery at RANGE restaurant, bar + patio, Pallino’s, and Commonage Market are made from sustainable materials.
- Predator Ridge Resort has also eliminated single-use disposable toiletries in our overnight accommodations. The Resort now utilizes refillable containers in all suites.
- Golf courses are maintained with 100% recycled effluent water, significantly reducing our reliance on freshwater sources.
- Extensive recycling and composting programs have been implemented across the resort.
3. Climate Action
- The use of electric golf carts, instead of gas-powered, in Predator Ridge’s golf cart fleet.
- E-bike rentals are available to use on the extensive trail network, and around the Resort.
- Several Porsche, Tesla, and Generic EV Chargers are available across the Resort.
- Enhanced wildfire prevention strategies, including the groundbreaking investment in SenseNet, becoming the first residential & resort community in Canada to enhance its wildfire safety measures with this cutting-edge solution. Predator Ridge also works closely to support local fire services to protect natural landscapes.
Predator Ridge has also completed Environment and Climate Change actions under Clean Water and Sanitation, Life Below Water and Life on Land.
Society and Culture
This fundamental pillar is all about ensuring equal opportunities for all and respecting local communities while respectfully sharing their cultures and histories.
1. No Poverty
- A portion of Predator Ridge’s resort pet fee goes to PADS – PADS supports people with disabilities and community care providers by partnering with certified assistance dogs.
- Predator Ridge participates in hiring events through the community to help find employment opportunities for locals.
2. Health and Well Being
- Implementation of safety and risk prevention measures for employees and guests. This includes a monthly Safety Flash newsletter which discusses important safety measures at Predator Ridge.
- OFA Level 1 and OFA Level 2 training and first aid kits are available on resort.
3. Sustainable Cities and Communities
- The development plans of Predator Ridge include sustainable land use, and the preservation of green spaces, with over 50% of the resort’s land left undeveloped. This careful planning ensures that the natural habitat and biodiversity are maintained as we build out the future of our community.
- Predator Ridge encourages homeowners and guests to use the extensive trail network throughout the Trails Capital of BC to walk, hike or bike, with more than 13 km of bike specific trails on property and 35 km of well-maintained hiking and walking trails. This significantly lowers vehicle emissions.
- Respecting wildlife in our community by reminding homeowners and guests of the proper etiquette when encountering wildlife.
Predator Ridge has also completed Society and Culture actions under Quality Education, Gender Equality and Peace and Justice Strong Institutions.
Governance and Economy
The final pillar supports a transparent economic and resource governance and management system for building sustainable tourism.
1. Zero Hunger
- Several team members have been trained with the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) to meet food safety in all processes of production in all of Predator Ridge’s kitchens.
- Vegetarian, vegan, and food-sensitive menu items are available in RANGE restaurant, bar + patio.
- Local and seasonal ingredients are prioritized in dining experiences, supporting local farmers and reducing our carbon footprint.
2. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Emergency protocols are in place throughout the Predator Ridge property, including an internal Emergency Line. This internal line is to be called when assistance is required for an employee or guest during an emergency to ensure quick the appropriate personnel are deployed to the situation in the most efficient and effective way possible.
- Implementation of a technological customer service support system to provide sustainable and easier communication with guests, either by phone or directly through our website.
3. Partnerships and Collaborations
- Actively working with sustainability committees including Biosphere Sustainable and GreenStep to ensure sustainable initiatives are actively being pursued throughout the property and operations.
- Predator Ridge is proud to be a part of the EcoStay program, a national initiative that helps hotels measure their carbon footprint, identify and fund reduction strategies and offset greenhouse gas emissions.
Predator Ridge has also completed Governance and Economy under Reduced Inequalities and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
