In June 2024, Wesbild contributed $125,000 to Immigrant Link Centre Society (ILCS), a local non-profit organization focused on eliminating food waste based in Coquitlam, BC. When Mayor Richard Stewart, Mayor of Coquitlam, introduced ILCS to the Wesbild team, we knew we had to step in and do our part. Their vision where no edible food goes to waste, every hungry person is nourished, and communities flourish in a sustainable environment is one that Wesbild greatly supports, which is why we are proud to make a contribution to the build out of a commercial kitchen at the ILCS sorting facility.
The donation is directed towards the installation of vital components such as the HVAC system, a walk-in freezer, and a walk-in cooler. These upgrades will significantly enhance ILCS’s capacity to store and distribute fresh produce and perishable goods, ensuring clients have access to a wider variety of healthy food options. By supporting the food recovery program and kitchen infrastructure, Wesbild is helping to ensure that individuals have dignified access to the nutritious food they need to live healthy and happy lives.
From 2024 to 2025, ILCS is leading a mighty pilot project that aims to transform Coquitlam into the first Zero Food Waste city in Canada. Not only will ILCS’s food recovery efforts help nourish vulnerable families, it will also minimize environmental impact by diverting food waste from landfills, and foster a sense of community between clients, volunteers, and businesses.
